The Ecological Footprint of the University of Puget Sound:

Facilitating an active involvement of students towards preserving our region, through education,
increased awareness, participation, and cost-effective habits.

The University:

The University of Puget Sound is an active and vibrant community of 2,600 students.
This magnificent institution is a mini-city unto itself.  Supporting a full education, dining
and facilities staff--not to mention the student body--the University of Puget Sound is a
constant hub of activity.

The Questions:

With the upcoming construction on Thompson Hall and an inquisitive student
body raising issues of environmental impact, the policies and procedures of the university
have become more prevalent in everyone's minds.

    And most importantly...

What are students and staff currently doing to lessen the impact of our mini-city?
How can the average person get involved?                                            Howarth Hall

The Goal:

Everyone has an obligation to the neighborhood, city and region in which they reside.  Though we are part of an
exceptional organization of education and development, the students of the University of Puget Sound are not immune to
the responsibilities owed to our community.  While classes and work continually compete for our attention, all members of
a society contribute to the overall health of the region in which we live and it is our role to lead the way towards
environmental awareness.  By providing an open forum for discussion and relaying of ideas, we hope to inspire and foster
students to "think globally, act locally.''  Though an increase in environmentally friendly activity, promotion, involvement and
information, it is our hope to assist the members of our community (both within the university system and our neighbors) in
assessing their own impact on the environment as well as effect real change in perception.
