Mapping of Submerged Aquatic Vegetation from Point Defiance to Nisqually River Delta

We are working with South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group (SPSSEG) to map the Submerged Aquatic Vegetation from Point Defiance to Nisqually River Delta.  This information will be used to design habitat restoration projects for this area shoreline.  The intertidal distribution of Z. marina and other aquatic vegetation is being assessed from the upper limit to approximately -1.0 m MLLW by walking the tide flat with a GPS unit and digital video camera/still camera during summer maximum low tides. We are also using underwater videography techniques and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to map eelgrass beds in the subtidal area.  The data shown here are examples of survey methods used for the nearshore area at the mouth of Puget Creek, where there are eelgrass beds. A short georeferenced videoclip is shown to illustrate how MediaMapper allows you to click on a GPS tracklog and bring up the video sequence for that location.
